Tyler Junior College and Chapel Hill ISD plan to announce the launch of an Early College High School today during a signing ceremony.

TJC is in discussions with Tyler ISD to start one of these high school programs in 2015.

An Early College High School is an innovative high school located on or close to a college campus that allows the “students least likely to attend college an opportunity to earn a high school diploma and 60 college credit hours,” according to the Texas Education Agency website.

The schools provide dual credit (meaning students earn high school and college credit simultaneously) at no cost to students; provide academic and social support to students; and increase college readiness, among other things, according to the website.
