The Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce named Billy Bateman the 2013 Citizen of the Year at a luncheon Monday in Jacksonville.
Bateman is a 1975 graduate of Jacksonville High School, and has lived in the city for almost 50 years, according to a news release from the chamber. He is married with four children and four grandchildren.
He is the current owner and manager of Bateman Construction, which was founded in 1999, and also serves as the ranch manager of Carey Lake Ranch in Jacksonville.
Bateman is a supporter of the Crisis Center of Anderson and Cherokee Counties, helping with the Annual Crisis Center Hunt and Fundraiser in 2012 and 2013, and participating in the center’s “Walk a Mile in her Shoes” event in April 2013, according to the release.
He helped coordinated relief efforts Moore, Okla., along with creating “Ruby Day” for a Jacksonville girl to recognized her for her contributions to the tornado victims.
In August, he coordinated with HOPE for the Fan Drive, started “Bushels of Blessings” for the needy families with Worship Under the Bridge Ministries, and coordinated a “Veterans Appreciation Day” at Carey Lake Ranch.
He also fronted an effort to distribute gift bags and Christmas cards to all local nursing homes with Worship Under the Bridge Ministries.
He also was a volunteer auctioneer for the Jacksonville Garden Club’s Annual Fundraiser in 2012 and 2013.
