US Highway 59 at the UPRR Overpass, just north of Loop 287 in Lufkin, is back open. The bridge was hit last night by an 18-wheeler carrying heavy equipment.
The truck was hauling a large pump used in the oil field, our news partners at KYTX CBS 19 are reporting. As a result of hitting the railroad underpass, the pump ended up in both lanes with hydraulic fluid, transmission fluid and motor oil spilling onto the pavement. TxDOT called the hazardous materials team from DLS to clean up the spill.
All northbound traffic at the location was detoured to Farm to Market Road 3521 until clean up and debris removal was completed. Southbound traffic was not affected.
