The city of Tyler’s Half Cent Sales Tax Corporation board voted to approve a contract with a Tyler architectural firm to prepare a preliminary design for a new city animal shelter.
Freese and Nichols will prepare a schematic design at a cost of $108,953, which will come from the city’s Half Cent sales tax fund. Half Cent Board members also approved for Tyler City Manager Mark McDaniel to go forward with plans to purchase the property, located in the 4200 block of Chandler Highway.
The city signed a $550,000 contract in November to purchase the property and is now in the third week of a 30-day inspection period to see if it meets all of the requirements for the animal shelter. McDaniel said in the meeting that the property is in good shape. The city must close on the property by the end of this year, he said.
