Whitehouse ISD is in the process of establishing an education foundation to benefit the district.
Sherrie Lloyd, executive director of financial services, said board members recently approved a resolution in support of working with a consultant on the foundation’s formation.
Whitehouse ISD school board president Vince Primo, an ex officio member of the foundation committee, said the foundation will primarily be used to help increase educational opportunities for district schools.
That will be accomplished through the ability to raise money for things that are not budgeted items in the district, he said.
As far as a timeline, the hope is to kick off the foundation at the beginning of next school year, Primo said.
He said he expects during its first year that the foundation will have one purpose — possibly funding classroom grants for teachers — and then will grow from there.
Overall, Primo said, he feels like establishing a foundation is a great investment for the district, and the goal is to eventually have a school employee whose duties involve the foundation. Primo said the foundation also can be an avenue for alumni to contribute to Whitehouse schools.
“We take a pride in being one of the top districts in East Texas, and we want to be able to take our education to the next level,” Primo said.
