The 11th annual Day of Remembrance will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in The Children’s Park at the corner of South Broadway Avenue and East Dobbs Street.
“The Day of Remembrance Ceremony provides a safe place for families who have experienced the loss of a child to come together, to remember their children and to grieve the tremendous loss in their lives,” said Jennifer Carson, president of The Children’s Park, in a news release. “There are very few places in our society where we are given permission and even encouraged to feel and express the depth of our pain that results from the loss of a child. Our hope is that as people are given a place to grieve, they will be able to connect with their feelings, realize they are not alone and move further along in their healing journey.”
Alea Greer’s daughter, Morgan, died 11 years ago on the same date the ceremony will be held this year.
“Attending the Annual Day of Remembrance in memory of my daughter Morgan is always a special time for me and my family,” she said. “It is a time for us to reflect on her short life and to think about all that she could have become. It is a bittersweet day for me because I am thankful for the time I had with her, but I truly miss her so much. I am so grateful to the Children's Park of Tyler for hosting this event every year. It provides that opportunity we need in our busy lives to slow down and reflect on the gift of children God gives us and to adore and appreciate them. You never know how long you will have them.”
The ceremony will include a roll call of the children represented, special music selections, a guest speaker on grief and will conclude with a live butterfly release.
Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. Register at www.childrensparktyler.org or by calling 903-939-1597. Admission is free.
