Smith County Sheriff officials continue their investigation into an assault Monday that left one man with several stab wounds and another with injuries sustained when he was hit by a baseball bat.

John Moore, the department's spokesman, said dectectives have learned the incident at 8226 Red Oak Drive just outside Loop 323 off of U.S. Highway 27 was drug-related.

"It appears this was all over drugs. A man and woman showed up at the residence on Red Oak and the two men got into a fight," he said.

Moore said one man was armed with a baseball bat and the other was armed with a knife and both men were injured in the melee.

He said one was transported by private vehicle and the other by ambulance.

Moore said no one has been charged in the incident at this time, and detectives are trying to determine if there are other people involved.
