The Tyler Lee Theatre students are raising money for a non-school district sponsored trip to England and Scotland this summer.
The students plan to travel there in June 2014 to perform scenes from Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and sightsee.
In order to raise money for the 10-day trip, the students will have a 5K Zombie Run on Nov. 2 at Faulkner Park, 410 Cumberland Road, in Tyler.
Race day registration begins at 8 a.m., followed by an orientation at 8:30 a.m. and the race start at 9 a.m.
Cost is $25 through Oct. 31. Race day registration will cost $30 in cash or check. The price includes an event T-shirt.
Each runner will receive three “lives” in the form of inflated balloons. As they run, the zombies, who will be Robert E. Lee High School theater students, will try to take their lives.
The goal is for the runner to arrive at the end of the 5K with all of their lives. Race finishers will receive special recognition.
Runners can choose to buy more lives for $5 each the day of the event.
The run is one of several fundraisers the students are organizing for this trip. Other events include a dinner theater and Barnes and Noble book fair.
Debra McCook, a Tyler Lee Theatre parent and fundraising chairwoman for the trip, said the goal is for each student to raise at least half the funds for the trip. The cost is more than $3,000 per person. To register for the event, visit https://tylerleezombie5k.eventbrite.com .
