The Rusk Chamber of Commerce will host a cross-country zombie run this Saturday.
Registration for the run will go on until 3 p.m., and the race is expected to start between 3:30 and 4 p.m.
During the run, which is called “Running from Zombies,” “runners try to out-run, outwit and out-maneuver zombies,” according to the chamber website. Proceeds will benefit the Rusk Senior Finale.
“This is something new for Rusk and is planned in the fall around the chamber’s newest event the Hollow Festival,” the website states. “‘Running from Zombies’ is a little like flag football only runners are running cross country, and there are lot of weird dead looking creatures out to stop runners from crossing the finish line with their red flags attached to their belt.”
According to the website, runners will receive a flag belt that will be attached around their waist. Zombies, both “fast and nimble” and “slow and terrifying” will be out to take the flags, according to the chamber website.
The runners will be taken to the unknown location after the close of registration then will follow the marked trail “trying to avoid all zombies while holding on to the flags attached to their belt,” according to the website. The run ends at the Rusk Civic Center, where awards will be presented, and participants are then invited to attend the free “Hollow Dance” featuring Music Masters of East Texas.
The registration cost the day of the race is $25.
