A remodeled playground featuring sections for different age groups, shade and new ground surface will debut this week during a grand opening event at Brookshire’s World of Wildlife Museum and Country Store, the company announced.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the playground will take place at 10 a.m. Wednesday at 1600 WSW Loop 323 in Tyler.
Brookshire Grocery Co. Public Relations Director Rebecca Sanders said refreshments will be available that day, and at least one costumed character will be on hand for the occasion. Additionally, a proclamation will be presented, and Rick Rayford, president and CEO of Brookshire Grocery Co., will address attendees, according to a news release.
“We’re just real excited,” Ms. Sanders said. “We got a lot of input from people in the community, (and) hopefully they and the rest of the public will be pleased with what we have to offer.”
She said the project also is another way Brookshire Grocery Co. can give back to the community.
No significant additions or changes have been made on the playground in years, she said, so the company wanted to make it more modern and appealing to children who visit.
She said three distinct areas were created for children ages 2 to 5, 5 to 8 and 8 to 12, and canopies were added, along with new soft flooring.
Overall, Ms. Sanders said, there were a lot of enhancements and improvements.
Although the playground was remodeled, there were no new additions to the country store and museum, said Megan Riaz, Brookshire’s public relations coordinator.
Winter hours for the playground are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
