Motorcycle enthusiasts are invited to ride for a good cause this weekend during the Thunder in the Pines rally in Jacksonville.

The rally, which takes place in the 500 block of East Commerce Street, is scheduled to kick off Friday, with registration beginning at noon, followed by a parade to Biker Ball at 6:30 p.m. and a Biker Ball from 7 to 10 p.m., according to the event website.

Jacksonville Police Det. Sgt. Daniel Franklin said the Biker Ball will take place inside the Norman Activity Center, 526 E. Commerce St.

On Saturday, registration begins at 9 a.m., followed by a Poker Run at 10 a.m.

Franklin said bikers will travel a pre-planned route with multiple stops. The ride entails some type of event at each stop, and the top five winners will have an opportunity for a chance to win $10,000, he said.

Other activities Saturday include bike games, a bike show and live entertainment.

Franklin said vendors also will be on hand, and jello wrestling, a new event, is set to begin about 8 p.m.

Registration for the Thunder in the Pines Motorcycle Rally is $20. Franklin said proceeds benefit victims of child abuse.
