Eleno Licea this morning announced he would run for the District 4 Tyler City Council seat, soon to be vacated by Martin Heines.

Heines announced his candidacy for mayor in August to replace outgoing Mayor Barbara Bass, who cannot run again because of term limits. Mayor Bass has served in her position since 2008.

Licea, 35, who owns Licea Insurance Group, had served on the Tyler Independent School District Board since 2009, but chose not to run for re-election when his term expired earlier this year.

Both the mayoral and city council races will be in May. Licea will be challenging fellow Tyler businessman Don Warren for the District 4 seat. Warren announced earlier this month that he would run for the District 4 seat.
