One person was killed in an early morning auto-pedestrian accident in Smith County.

DPS troopers tell our news partners at KYTX CBS 19 it happened around 6:50 on Highway 31, just west of Greenbriar Road in Smith County. Troopers say an 18-wheeler was stopped on Highway 31 West. The truck driver, from El Salvador who lives in Houston, was trying to figure out where to take his truck load, according to DPS trooper Richard Hoover.

As he was walking back to his truck, while it was still dark outside, a car struck him. Troopers say the car was driver by a 19-year old Tyler woman who was taking her kids to school at the time of the accident. She will not be cited for the crash because the Houston man was not walking in a crosswalk.

The Tyler mother will, however, be ticketed for not having her driver's license on her and for failure to properly secure a child under 8.

DPS says the woman told troopers the man was also wearing dark clothing and she didn't see him until she hit him with her car.

The person's name has not been released, pending notification of family.
