Registration time has arrived for the third-annual Susan G. Komen Tyler Ride for the Cure horse trail ride. The event is Oct. 12 at the Tarrant Ranch in Bullard and is chaired by Louise Hagen and a committee of volunteers.

Organizers are excited about this year's event, which includes live music, a grilled on-site hamburger lunch provided by Outback Steakhouse, a Kiddie Korral and a silent auction, according to a Komen news release.

"This is our third year, and we are excited about adding some new things to the event and hope more riders will join us," said Louise Hagen, founding event chair and breast cancer survivor. "The event is for beginner and advanced riders with three different trail rides, including a fast paced, gaited ride, which we added this year.”

Ms. Hagen brought the idea of the Ride for the Cure to the Komen Tyler affiliate four years ago after attending a similar event in the Dallas area.

"I saw how successful the North Texas event was and thought that East Texas could put on a great event, too. I'm very proud of how far we've come in three years and look forward to watching this event grow," Hagen said.

Visit The event requires a registration fee, $30 for adults and for children. Adult riders are required to raise an additional $200 in personal fundraising in order to participate in the event. Children do not have to meet that same requirement. Online donations will be accepted until Oct. 11 and also may be turned in the morning of the event.

Event T-shirt, goody bag and lunch are included in the registration. T-shirt and bibs will be mailed prior to the event. There is also a registration available for guests for $20 and includes entry to the event, lunch and two beverages. This registration is not for a rider and does not include an event T-shirt.

The event begins on Oct. 12 at 8:30 a.m. with rider registration and check-in, with a 9 a.m. breakfast and coffee. The silent action opens at 9:30 a.m.. At 10:00 a.m. the advanced, three- to four-hour trail ride with various creek crossings begins. At 10:30 a.m. the fast paced, gaited 2.5 hour trail ride begins, and at 11 a.m. the intermediate, 1.5-hour trail ride begins. Live music will begin at 11:15 a.m., and lunch will follow beginning at 12:30 pm. The silent auction closes at 2 p.m., and the awards ceremony begins at 2:30 p.m. The event ends at 4 p.m.
