Palestine police arrested three men in connection with a kidnapping Saturday, according to a news release from the police department.
Officers responded to a 911 call shortly before 1 a.m. in which a woman said a man had been taken at gunpoint and was being held in a truck against his will. The caller gave the police dispatcher the information on the truck and a description of the offenders.
Police found the truck on Loop 256 near Spring Street. After some investigation, police arrested Jerry Dyches, 59; Scott Kindle, 40; and Danny Smith, 36; all of Crockett.
The initial police report indicated that the victim advised that he went to a home located off Farm-to-Market Road 320 in Anderson County. The victim told police that once he reached the residence, the three men came from behind a house and assaulted him.
The victim claimed that he was hit with a metal baseball bat, a metal flashlight and was threatened with a gun. It was also alleged the victim was forced into a truck with the men and driven away from the scene. Palestine police found the truck and made the subsequent arrest.
All three men were taken to the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office for processing. The men will be booked in on a charge of aggravated kidnapping which is a first degree felony, Lt. James Muniz said.
The punishment range for a first-degree felony is from five years up to life in prison.
Kindle also was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony, which carries a punishment range of up to 20 years in prison.
The victim was taken to the Palestine Regional Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. The victim’s injuries were not life threatening, Muniz said.
