Troup Police were looking for a hit and run driver that struck a woman from behind Saturday evening.
Terrie Fonza said she was walking down Georgia Street near the Magnolia intersection when she was struck around 11 p.m. She was a block away from home on a walk she's made thousands of times.
"I turned around and went back home," Ms. Fonza said. "There wasn't a car coming, and then I don't know what happened."
She crawled to another house down the street and eventually made it to the hospital with head, leg and abdominal injuries, Ms. Fonza said.
"She was bleeding out of her head," Fonza's son Sergio Carey said. "(There was) grass all over her. She didn't know anything."
Carey said he found a maroon side mirror from a car or truck that could lead back to whoever did this. The family said investigators believe the maroon mirror came from some type of Ford.
"Why did they run over me and leave me like that for dead?” Ms. Fonza said. “I don't bother anybody. I could have been dead and left my kids, but the Lord saw me through this."
The detective working this case and the Chief of Police were not in the office Wednesday.
Ms. Fonza has some stitches and staples, but is expected to recover.
