The city of Tyler’s Liberty Hall will host alternative country-rock band Reckless Kelly in concert at 8 p.m. July 25 with opening performer Taylor Heard, according to a press release from the city.
Led by brothers Willy (vocals/guitar/Wurlitzer piano) and Cody Braun (vocals/fiddle/mandolin/harmonica), Reckless Kelly formed in Bend, Ore., before relocating to Austin in the 1990s.
The band is also made up of David Abeyta (lead guitar, piano), Jay Nazz (drums) and Chris Schelske (bass guitar). Reckless Kelly will release its eighth album “Long Night Moon” on Sept. 3. The album is the follow-up to the band’s Grammy nominated "Good Luck & True Love," which took home four Lone Star Music Awards, and sent three singles to No.1 on Texas radio, the release stated.
“This show will be a sneak peak of their upcoming release, as well as all of the well-known hits that have made Reckless Kelly so beloved by fans,” Liberty Hall Manager Anne Payne said in a news release. “The group is known for their explosive live shows and their passion for making albums of substance.”
When Willy Braun, principal songwriter for Reckless Kelly, began writing songs for their upcoming release, he quickly found a theme emerging.
“About halfway through writing this record, I noticed that almost all of the songs I was writing, whether they were songs about the road, life or love, had something to do with traveling,” Braun said. “It started as an accident, and I decided to just go with it. Before we knew it, there was a definite theme.”
Working singles from the album include “The Last Goodbye” (August 2013), “The Girl I Knew,” and “Be My Friend (In Real Life).”
Opening for Reckless Kelly will be Bullard native Taylor Heard, who has found much success in just a few short years. She recently won the prestigious John Ritter Showcase in Carthage earning her the title of Texas Country Music Hall of Fame Representative for 2013. She also won the People's Choice Award at the showcase, according to the release.
