A 10-year-old girl could provide more insight this week as to what happened the day she was allegedly sexually assaulted at Lake Jacksonville.
Jacksonville Police Detective James Oden said the girl spoke with authorities at the scene, but a forensic interview today will allow her to tell the rest of her story.
The incident reportedly occurred July 4 around the concession area.
Oden said Joey Longoria, 37, of Rusk, was swimming, and an acquaintance of his was there with the girl. Longoria called the girl to him, he said, and while he was holding her in the water, touched her inappropriately.
Oden said the girl was able to get away from Longoria, and told her teenage aunt about the situation.
They were scared to tell the girl’s mother right then because Longoria was looking at them, but the mother eventually found out, Oden said.
He said the girl’s father confronted Longoria, and officers at the lake got involved.
Once authorities spoke with the girl, Longoria was arrested. Oden said Longoria was originally charged with indecency with a child, but the charge was changed to aggravated sexual assault of a child, a first-degree felony, because of some evidence that police were able to obtain.
He said Longoria confessed to more than inappropriately touching the girl.
Longoria remained in the Cherokee County Jail Monday morning on a $75,000 bond.
