WOOD COUNTY — Two men were killed and a juvenile critically injured when two boats collided on Lake Fork Monday night.
Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Warden Capt. Quint Balkcom said two men are confirmed dead and a juvenile was taken to Dallas Children’s Hospital where he remains in critical condition.
The accident happened in Wood County near the Coffee Creek area by the County Road 515 bridge.
Balkcom said no information about the men’s identities would be released at this time.
“We were out here all night, and we had to get some rest. Today we are recreating the accident to determine what happened,” he said.
Balkcom said it appears both boaters were using the boat lanes when the accident happened, but he cautioned it might take several weeks before the exact cause of the accident is known.
“We have our dive team here, and they are utilizing float bags that are designed to raise one of the boats that sunk in the lake. When we get the boat and all of the pieces we should have an idea some time later this week of what happened,” he said.
Balkcom said one thing that might impede the investigation is the busy July 4 holiday, which can be busy for game wardens working drownings and other water-related incidents.
“We like to see people enjoying recreation outdoors as safely as possible, and we ask that you keep your head on a swivel when on the water, because you need to be aware of everyone else on the water. We want everyone to have a good and safe time,” he said.
