A Smith County man was arrested after being charged with killing his father Saturday night.
About 11:15 p.m., EMS responded to a medical call of chest pains on Eastside Drive, according to a news release from the Smith County Sheriff’s Office.
Paramedics noticed the patient, 62-year-old Stephen Lacey White, was shot in the chest. He was taken to East Texas Medical Center, where he died from his injuries. He was pronounced dead by Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Gary Alfred.
An arrest warrant was issued for White’s son, 40-year-old James Jason White by 114th State District Judge Christi Kennedy, according to the release. He was booked in the Smith County jail and charged with murder. His bond was set at $500,000.
Sheriff’s detectives and crime scene investigators responded to the scene, but the reason for the shooting remains under investigation.
