Amazing Video of Man Crossing the Street, Hit by Car
From KXAN/In-Depth Investigative/Online:
HOUSTON (NBC/KPRC) - The Houston Police Department suspended its own police chief without pay after he hit a pedestrian in a crosswalk with his city car.
It happened earlier this month on Sept. 4.
As seen in this surveillance video, a man crossing the street in the crosswalk never sees it coming.
While watching the video, focus on the man in green approaching the corner. Chief Charles McClelland makes the left turn, and then the pedestrian goes flying.
McClelland said he did not see anyone and completed the turn. That's when the man stepped off the curb and McClelland's car ran into him.
The man suffered minor injuries to both elbows and was taken to the hospital for observation.
The accident investigation revealed that McClelland was at fault, and he says the suspension was implemented because he holds himself to a higher standard.
It is not known when McClelland would serve his day of suspension, but he will enroll in a defensive-driving class.
