A man with suspected gang ties was arrested Wednesday on two counts of burglary of a habitation.
Smith County Sheriff’s Office deputies and the U.S. Marshal’s service arrested 20-year-old Devonte Hawkins, of Tyler, at the Travel Lodge Motel, 3300 Mineola Highway, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.
The arrest warrant was issued by 114th District Court Judge Christi Kennedy, and Hawkins’ bond was set at $150,000.
Hawkins, 21-year-old Brandon Ervin, of Tyler, and a 17-year-old Tyler man allegedly two home burglaries together in April. All three have connections to local street gangs and police believe they are tied to several other burglaries where multiple firearms were taken.
The 17-year-old turned himself in to the sheriff’s office on May 23, and Ervin was arrested on July 7.
Both are currently in the Smith County Jail on two burglary of a habitation warrants, which were both issued by Judge Kennedy. They both have bonds of $150,000 each.
