Dennis Bendy can only wait now as the prosecution and defense have both rested in his murder trial in the gang-related shooting death of a young Tyler mother last year.
Testimony in the case prosecuted by Smith County District Attorney Matt Bingham and Morgan Biggs, indicated Bendy, a member of the Westside Rollin 60s Crips, was one of three gang members involved in the shooting at P.T. Cole Park on July 30, 2013, that left 20-year-old Briana Young dead.
Fellow gang member Rakheem “Boobie” Goldstein told jurors last week that Bendy was one of the shooters, and the shooting was payback for an earlier drive-by in which Bendy reported he was fired upon.
Goldstein said the target at P.T. Cole Park was a rival gang member who was seen at the park.
Rakheem said Bendy drove up on one side of the park and began firing, and other gang members crossed the park firing.
During the crossfire, Ms. Young ran to her young son to protect him from the flying bullets. She was struck in the chest and died holding her son in her arms.
Both sides of the prosecution are scheduled to present their closing arguments today.
