GILMER —The Upshur County Sheriff’s Office declined to release information Monday concerning the death of a 4-year-old boy in the Gilmer area Sunday night.
Investigator Chris Clark told the Tyler Morning Telegraph an investigation into the matter is ongoing and the office would release information in “a day or two.”
Clark did not confirm anyone had died, but Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer confirmed that Ryley Johnston died Sunday evening and that his body had been sent for an autopsy.
A Gilmer firefighter who spoke with the newspaper on condition of anonymity said he understood the child was run over by a vehicle.
Law enforcement and other emergency personnel converged on an area where Buffalo Street forks a short distance west of the Gilmer city limits Sunday night. A trooper from the Texas Department of Public Safety at the scene said an incident had occurred on private property, and he was assisting the sheriff’s office in its investigation.
The Gilmer Fire Department and Gilmer police also responded to the scene.
