A West Rusk sophomore football player was killed in a one-vehicle accident Friday 6 miles northwest of the city of Henderson in Rusk County.
Adarian Parker, 16, of Henderson, was driving a 2002 Ford Expedition traveling southeast on Texas Highway 323 about 1:20 a.m., Texas Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Jean Dark said.
The investigating trooper’s report stated that the vehicle might have had some malfunction, Trooper Dark said.
The driver, Parker, lost control of the vehicle and it left the roadway and struck a tree, coming to rest facing west in the roadway, she said.
Justice of the Peace Joe Sorrells pronounced Parker dead at the scene.
Parker was a potential starter in the offensive line for the Raiders at West Rusk High School.
According to KYTX CBS19, Coach John Frazier said Parker and another player were headed home from practice when the accident happened. Frazier said Parker’s smile and upbeat personality would be missed.
A 15-year-old passenger was not injured, Trooper Dark said.
