TYLER (KYTX) - After more than 30 years, the Tyler Public Library is getting a facelift. Construction will start next week.
These are John Simpson's favorite books. He's eight years old.
"Sometimes, you can make stuff out of it. Sometimes, you can make this."
He says he enjoys coming to the library with his family during the summer.
"I like to read books."
Most of the library renovations are geared toward kids just like John.
"We're really excited about our plans for the children's area." says librarian Mary Vernau.
She says this story room will soon look like a cottage with painted ceilings and new light fixtures.
"The story room with the cottage front is really going to be special and draw attention to the fact that we're really interested in serving families and children. So, we want people to come in. And, hopefully they'll find it much more user-friendly."
Vernau says the changes are long overdue.
"There hasn't been anything done since- i don't believe since the building was built."
Also included in the upgrades- the library auditorium and back patio. Vernau says the patio is going to be screened in to create a more usable space.
The project starts Monday, August 11th. The current children's area will be moved to another section of the library during construction. It is expected to be complete by mid-October.
