A new school principal and the district budget are among items to be addressed during Tyler ISD’s board meeting this week.
The board is scheduled to meet at 11 a.m. Monday in Conference Room B of the District Administration Building, 1319 Earl Campbell Parkway.
Trustees are scheduled to vote on hiring a new principal for Andy Woods Elementary School.
In June, the board accepted Principal Brandon Chandler’s resignation. Chandler, who had been
at Andy Woods for two school years, accepted a position as principal of Arlington ISD’s West Elementary School.
The board also is scheduled to select Aug. 21 as the date to adopt the budget and proposed tax rate and to have the public meeting about it.
TISD is proposing a tax rate of $1.375 per $100 valuation, the same as its existing tax rate.
The proposed budget is $137.7 million, but almost $560,000 in unallocated funds remains.
Chief Financial Officer Tosha Bjork previously said her recommendation was to use the funds for a one-time expenditure.
Former Superintendent Gary Mooring said the district was considering awarding stipends.
In other business, the board is scheduled to vote on the purchase of instruments and equipment not to exceed $100,000.
Since 2009, TISD’s visual and performing arts program has increased by almost 2,000 students and the district is predicting the band and orchestra programs will increase by at least 150 students this school year, according to district information.
The district previously purchased more than $100,000 worth of instruments for the middle school band and orchestra programs.
Many of those middle school students are now in high school and the visual and performing arts programs are in need of more instruments to successfully implement the programs, according to the district information.
