Claudine Robertson-Russell, of Tyler, will turn 102 years old today, family members announced.
Mrs. Robertson-Russell was born July 26, 1912, in Marshall to Minnie Bolden-Robertson and Mack Montgomery. She was raised by her stepfather, Hugh Robertson, who moved to Tyler in the 1940s.
She graduated from Pemberton High School in Marshall, Texas College in Tyler and earned a master’s degree in elementary education from Prairie View A&M University.
Mrs. Robertson-Russell taught in Arp, Chapel Hill and Tyler school districts and was a school librarian. She later operated McKinney’s Day Care.
She was a founder of Friendship Baptist Church of Tyler where she taught Sunday school and served as the school superintendent.
She and husband, Louis Russell, opened Russell’s Auto Parts and Welding Service.
He and her 10 siblings preceded her in death.
Mrs. Robertson-Russell said the secrets to longevity are to eat plenty of vegetables and to get plenty of rest.
She is a member of Upper Room Baptist Church.
