An Athens woman turned herself into authorities Monday in the killing of her 4-year-old child.

Stacie Marie Parsons, 25, walked into the Athens Police Department at 8:46 a.m. Monday and told officers she killed her daughter, according to a news release from the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office.

Police found the girl with trauma to her head and chest in the yard of a home in the 400 block of Martin Luther King Boulevard.

Because the initial crime happened on County Road 1500, the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office took the investigation.

Sheriff Ray Nutt said the girl was killed near a bridge on the country road and put in the trunk of a car and taken home. When Mrs. Parsons got home, she told her husband what happened, and he retrieved the child from the trunk and attempted to do CPR in the family’s front yard, Nutt said.

The child was pronounced dead by Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Randy Daniels and an autopsy was ordered.

Nutt said the department is not looking for accomplices in the murder. Nutt declined to comment on the motive of the homicide but said the mother turned herself in soon after the crime happened.

Mrs. Parsons was charged with capital murder and booked into the Henderson County Jail. As of late Monday afternoon, her bond was not set.
