A Mineola woman who claimed she thought a handgun was a Taser was arrested Monday after shooting another woman.

The Mineola Police Department was called to the Best Western Inn, 100 Derby Lane, about 2 a.m. Saturday, according to a news release.

According to police, two women rented the hotel room and then invited two male friends over to visit. One of the men had a small-caliber handgun.

Amanda Adams, 18, of Mineola, told officers she thought the gun was a Taser and pointed it at 27-year-old Amanda Soape.

Ms. Soape was shot one time and was taken to East Texas Medical Center in Tyler with nonlife threatening injuries, the release states.

Ms. Adams was arrested on Monday and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony. Her bond was set at $50,000.
