The Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce is accepting school supplies and clothes for its ninth annual Children’s Back-to-School Fair for Jacksonville students on Aug. 5.
The fair will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Norman Activity Center, 526 E. Commerce St., according to a news release.
The event was created to assist children and their families begin their school year in a positive way.
Exhibits to help families learn about health, sports, social and other activities for children in Jacksonville will be available as well as entertainment. Each attending Jacksonville student will receive Jacksonville ISD standardized clothing and a backpack with school supplies for the upcoming school year.
Donations for school supplies and clothing are still needed for the event, the release states.
Clothing sizes 4 to 14 can be dropped off at the Clothes Closet, 314 S. Main St.
Some donations have been received but the committee is short of the following supplies for 800 backpacks: Plastic folders with brads and pockets, No. 2 pencils, 24-count crayons, glue sticks, wide ruled notebook paper, white liquid glue, spiral notebooks, scissors, marbled composition books, highlighters, pens, manuscript books, pencil pouches, lined 3-by-5 index cards, 12-count map pencils, three-ring binders, red ball point pens, dividers, wooden rulers, pencil top erasers, markers and erasers.
