People Attempting to Help (PATH) will be offering homebuyer education courses Aug. 2 through Sept. 6. The course consists of six sessions that provide students with the tools and knowledge they need to buy their own homes.
Class times are scheduled on Saturday from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and will be held at the PATH building at 402 W. Front St. in Tyler. Real estate industry specialists will assist in presenting information and will be available to answer questions.
n “Session 1: Are You Ready to Buy a Home?” will be held Aug. 2.
n “Session 2: Managing your Money,” on Aug. 9.
n “Session 3: Understanding Credit,” on Aug. 16.
n “Session 4: Obtaining a Mortgage Loan,” on Aug. 23.
n “Session 5: Shopping for a Home,” on Aug. 30.
n “Session 6: Protecting your investment,” is Sept. 6.
On the last day of the course, students receive a certificate of completion. Up to a year from the day the certificate is earned, students can use it to possibly get lower rates on mortgage products, and the certificate is required to receive a first-time homebuyer’s grant.
The course is not exclusively for PATH clients and is open to anyone interested in purchasing a home. However, space is limited to 16 students and pre-registration is required.
There is a $17 registration fee to cover the cost of the student curriculum materials.
