One person died Thursday in Henderson County after being struck by a train.
Union Pacific Spokeswoman Elizabeth Hutchinson confirmed a male pedestrian was killed in Malakoff about 2:40 p.m., near Lane Street.
She said the train was headed to Laredo from Arkansas and carried 81 cars.
“Our thoughts were with everyone who was impacted by this tragedy,” Ms. Hutchinson said, adding support staff would be on hand to counsel the crew on the train.
She said trains can be quiet for their size and residents should be safe and always assume a train is coming when near tracks.
Officials were on scene, and phone calls to the Malakoff Police Department were not returned.
