A car that was stolen Friday during a Smith County bank robbery was found Sunday in Cherokee County, near the city of Cuney.

The white 2009 Cadillac was found abandoned on a country road, according to a news release from the Smith County Sheriff’s Office.

The car was taken into police custody for processing.

The department was called at 7:06 a.m. that the Austin Bank at 16909 Texas Highway 155 South was robbed.

A small-framed black man wearing an ace bandage over his face held a female employee at gunpoint as she prepared to enter the building to go to work, the release states.

The man told the woman to take him into the bank, and she complied. The robber left the bank with an undetermined amount of money and used her vehicle as the getaway car. She was unharmed.

“Smith County Sheriff’s Office detectives are working in conjunction with the FBI and the Texas Rangers on this robbery,” Sheriff Larry Smith said.
