Ben Wheeler: Town to h old its first Independence day celebration

Ben Wheeler will hold an inaugural Fourth of July celebration to honor the late Brooks Gremmels, who revitalized the town and put it back on the map.

The Brooks’ Fourth of July Bash will include music, movies, food in fireworks at local businesses downtown, according its website.

Music at the Pickin’ Porch Park begins at 5 p.m. and will run until fireworks begin at 8:30 p.m.

Musical Guests include Wesley Pruitt, Heather Little, Matt Bradshaw, Craig Wallace, Travis Bolt, Chase McClanahan &  blacktopGYPSY and Stratoblasters.

Fireworks will begin at sunset at the Pickin’ Porch, the website states.

 More music will follow fireworks with the 1960s Garage Rock Band Mouse & The Traps at Moore’s Store starting at 9 pm. with Karl Berkebile.

Also at 9 p.m., Jimmy Wallace & Jerry Don Branch will take the stage at The Forge Bar & Grill

 At 9:30 p.m., the movie “The Wizard of Oz” in Technicolor will play in The Forge’s Backyard Pavilion.

There will be a small charge for food and drinks. 

Proceeds will benefit the Ben Wheeler Arts & Historic District Foundation and its effort to continue Brooks’ vision to keep the town moving forward long into the future.
