(AP) — An East Texas banker has pleaded guilty to embezzling nearly $335,000 from the financial institution including money being saved for Christmas.

A federal judge in Tyler on Monday accepted the plea from 54-year-old Deborah Cornett of Murchison. No sentencing date was immediately set for Cornett, who faces up to 30 years in prison for embezzlement by a bank employee.

Investigators say Cornett from late 2007 to mid-2013 was an officer and employee of First State Bank of Ben Wheeler. Prosecutors say she stole from bank payroll accounts, Christmas Club accounts, certificates of deposit and from fraudulently issued loans.

Christmas Club accounts are traditionally when customers save money throughout the year for the holidays.
