A 23-year-old Malakoff man was shot and killed Sunday afternoon.

Athens Police officers were called to a shooting in the 700 block of Robbins Road, according to a news release.

Officers found Cedrick Alvin Collins lying on the ground beside his vehicle with a gunshot wound.

Witnesses who heard the gunshots told officers after hearing the shots, two African-American men, one with a dark skin tone and one with a light skin tone, ran from the scene northwest on Robbins Road.

Collins was taken by ambulance to East Texas Medical Center — Athens, where he died. Henderson County Justice of the Peace Randy Daniel ordered an autopsy.

Police are not certain the two men seen fleeing were directly related to the shooting; however, they believe the men knew Collins, according to the news release.
