More than 179 fans were collected during the Beat the Heat fan collection drive on Friday.
Local air conditioning and heating company, East Texas Refrigeration (ETR), is partnering with The Salvation Army to collect new fans for those in need just in time for the heat of the summer.
This is the second year that ETR has helped facilitate the event.
“We were already doing the blanket drive in the winter and we decided this was a good companion,” said Kevin Braly, estimator with ETR.
Each summer, The Salvation Army in Tyler gives out about 60 new fans a week, which means more than 1,000 fans are needed during the summer months.
“People have already come by asking for fans, and we don’t have any in our reserves,” said Chantel Millin, community and corporate relations coordinator at The Salvation Army in Tyler.
Last year's Beat the Heat Fan Drive surpassed ETR's goal and resulted in a total of 379 fans.
Fans can be still be donated in person at ETR's corporate office (4700 Old Troup Highway) in Tyler, with any ETR Service Technician, or online on at donate.salvation armyusa.org/texas/tyler beattheheatweb.
