Nearly 700 East Texans gathered at Harvey Hall Convention Center for Sock Hop, an event attempting to break the world record for most people doing the twist simultaneously. While the record of 1707 was not reached, attendees danced the night away in an event that raised money for the Shriners Hospitals for Children and the Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary. Vince Vance & the Valliants, a country, pop and rock and roll musical group from New Orleans, provided retro rock and roll for twisters. Attendees had a lot of fun twisting, some wearing 1950s attire.
