East Texas WWII veterans begin 3-day tour of D.C.

After slogging through rain at the Navy Memorial on Thursday, the Brookshire’s Heroes Flight, a group of 26 World War II veterans from East Texas and Louisiana, began a 4-hour tour of the U.S. Capitol led by Congressman Louie Gohmert. World War II veterans from Tyler and East Texas enjoyed a breakfast provided by the USO at the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport on Thursday morning as part of the Brookshire Grocery Co. /Super 1 Foods Heroes Flight. Another group from Shreveport, La., joined them for the flight to Washington, D.C., where they also will visit the World War II Memorial and see a host of Washington memorials and museums. Both groups will return home on Saturday night. Veterans participating in the trip are from Tyler, Longview, Marshall, Mineola, Martins Mill, Holly Lake Ranch, Pollok, Winnsboro and Bullard, and also from several cities in Louisiana.
