Buckner Children and Family Services and the East Texas Food Bank are joining forces to put an end to hunger by ensuring that no child goes without food this summer.

Between June 10 and Aug. 8, more than 100 volunteers from nine local churches will give of their summers to ensure that any child 18 and younger will have the opportunity to receive free lunches from noon until 1 p.m. at two Summer Food Program sites found at the Belaire Manor Apartments located at 1501 East Young St. and at the intersection of Tammy Lynn and Clyde streets in Longview.

The Summer Food Program serves children in low-income communities who participate in free and reduced feeding programs during the school year. Since these programs are only available during the school year, the Summer Food Program helps fill that hunger gap ensuring that children continue to receive nutritious meals throughout the summer.
