Tylerites have an opportunity to break the Guinness World Record for the largest twist dance on Saturday.

The attempt will be made during the Vince Vance and The Valiants Sock Hop event, “A Sock Hop with a Twist.” The event, which benefits The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary and Shriners Hospitals for Children, is scheduled for Saturday at Harvey Convention Center.

The Feliciano Foundation, along with The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary and Shriners, is helping organize the event.

Everything kicks off with a car show from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Doors then will open at 6 p.m., followed by a private party with Vince Vance from 7 to 8 p.m. and a concert/dance with Vince Vance and the Valiants from 8 to 11 p.m. At 9 p.m., participants will try to break the Guinness World Record, which was set three years ago in North Carolina with 1,706 dancers.

In addition to the Guinness World Record attempt, there will be an old-fashioned sock hop, a hula-hoop contest and a silent auction that day. Concessions will be available outside of Harvey Convention Center.

There is no admission cost for the car show but there is an entry fee of $25.

Tickets for “A Sock Hop with a Twist” are $100 for the private party, concert/dance and to participate in the twist dance. General admission, which does not include the private party, is $50.

For those who’d like to listen to the concert from outside of the Harvey Convention Center and participate in the twist dance at 9 p.m., tickets are $10.

“A Sock Hop with a Twist” tickets are available at The Salvation Army, 633 N. Broadway Ave., and at Feliciano Financial Group, 1828 East Southeast Loop 323, Suite 200, this morning. They also are available at the door the night of the event, online and at the “Dine-in and Donate” event today at Rusty Taco on South Broadway Avenue. The event, scheduled for 4 to 9 p.m., features performances by “The Voice” contestant Stevie Jo Rosenbalm and musician Casey Rivers.
