Thirteen people have applied for the Tyler ISD superintendent position with 10 days remaining before the application deadline.
Board President the Rev. Orenthia Mason said the board discussed the status of the application process for a district superintendent during the closed session of a special-called board meeting on Tuesday.
Current Superintendent Gary Mooring announced his resignation in April citing ongoing health issues. His last day is set for June 30.
The school board is conducting a search for the next superintendent and is accepting letters of interest and resumes sent to TISD attorney John Hardy through May 30.
Once the application deadline passes, the board will set a date to review the applications, the Rev. Mason said.
During the open session of the meeting, the board canvassed the votes from the May 10 election and welcomed two new trustees and one returning one.
The Rev. Orenthia Mason, District 2; Dr. Patricia Nation, District 4; and Barbara Ann Smith, District 5, recited the oath of office.
The Rev. Mason and Ms. Smith won the election in their respective districts. Dr. Nation was unopposed for her position.
The Rev. Mason and Dr. Nation were elected to three-year terms. Ms. Smith was elected to complete an unexpired term, which will end in May 2015.
Once the new board members took their seat at the board table, the board unanimously voted to keep the same officers, which means the Rev. Mason will remain president and District 7 trustee Andy Bergfeld will remain vice president.
