The four baby lions at the Caldwell Zoo in Tyler are nearly four months old! On January 22nd, the zoo’s female African lion, gave birth to five lion cubs. One youngster died shortly after birth, but the remaining four are doing very well under the watchful eye of their mom.
In March, the public was asked to help pick names for the cubs. Out of the eleven names the zoo had picked out, the following three received the most votes and each of the cubs received one of the names: Zuri, meaning beautiful; Amira, meaning princess; and Mika, meaning angel. The fourth cub from this litter received the name Doc, in tribute to a zoo veterinarian who passed away.
