The University of Texas at Tyler’s newest housing complex has a name: Eagle’s Landing.
UT Tyler received more than 200 entries in its naming contest, which was open to students, faculty and staff, according to a university news release.
But this name, which is a nod to the school’s mascot, Swoop the eagle, won.
UT Tyler bought the facility, which was formerly the Village at the U for $20.3 million and took over ownership on April 25, according to a university news release.
The apartments at 3088 Old Omen Road will be available to university upperclassmen.
Added to existing housing options, it brings the total number of on-campus beds to more than 1,400, according to the news release.
Eagle’s Landing will feature a gated entrance, fitness center, game room, sand volleyball court, clubhouse and outdoor pool area.
The facility is accepting UT Tyler students for move-in. Tours are available 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
The university plans to honor all current leases as it finalizes housing policies for the new facility.
