Goodwill Industries of East Texas and the East Texas Food Bank have joined forces to help East Texans.

The East Texas Food Bank is expanding its SNAP program through a strategic collaboration called GoodAssist.

“The goal of the project is to provide a complete ‘one-stop shop’ for low-income Goodwill clients, retail staff and the general public, who are in need of benefit assistance,” according to a news release.

GoodAssist is at the Goodwill Tyler Super Store at 1817 WSW Loop 323.

At the Tyler Goodwill store, there will be three dedicated computer stations, where trained individuals will confidentially assist participants with applications for benefits from a variety of assistance programs, including: SNAP, Medicaid, CHIP and TANF, through an online application process atwww.yourtexasbenefits.com .

In addition to providing application assistance, Goodwill also can assess the training and employment needs of participants through an intake process. Spanish speaking assistance also will be offered.

The goal is to expand GoodAssist to a second Goodwill store in summer 2014, and then to a third store in fall 2014. After the initial pilot year, GoodAssist could be expanded further to other Goodwill stores across East Texas. Goodwill Industries of East Texas has 15 stores.

If you have a need for this personal assistance, or know someone who does, you may schedule an appointment with coordinator Brian Williams at 903-343-5495 or stop in the Goodwill Tyler Super Store at 1817 WSW Loop 323 in Tyler, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays; 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays; and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
