Carter BloodCare will hold the third annual “40-gallon challenge” blood drive at UT Tyler from Monday through April 18.

The drive will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily on the Carter BloodCare buses in front of the student center.

“Carter BloodCare’s 40-gallon goal translates to 960 lives saved,” according to the news release.

All donors will receive a cap and will be entered into a drawing for a $100 Walmart gift card.

Potential blood donors can be 16 years old with a parent’s consent; 17-year-olds may donate independently. There is no upper age limit for donating blood. All donors must weigh at least 110 pounds, be in good general health and present a photo ID.

Ideally, a donor also should eat a good meal and drink plenty of fluids before giving blood.
