The public is invited to a skateboard contest later this month.
The event is scheduled for April 19 at Noble E. Young Skate Park, 3125 Seaton St. Registration begins at 9 a.m. Contests begin at noon with beginners, followed by intermediate and then advanced.
Michael Minter, a skateboard contest organizer, said there was a similar contest last year, and this time around, “We’re trying to do it a lot bigger.”
He said contest participants receive a gift bag with items including a T-shirt, water bottle and wristband.
For the crowd that comes to watch, he said there will be a taco truck, as well as a snow cone machine, popcorn machine and cotton candy.
Additionally, a dunking booth, a beanbag toss, raffles and a silent auction featuring art pieces and other donated items, will be part of the event, Minter said. So families will have plenty of fun things to do, he said.
The contest entry fee is $25. Minter said it is free for people to come watch the contest.
He said all of the money raised that day goes toward additional improvements that he and others would like to see happen to the Noble E. Young Skate Park area, but the contest event also is about “bringing everyone together.”
