VIDEO: John Tyler students tops in regional Texas Citizen Bee

Three John Tyler High School students were the winners in the regional citizen bee competition held Friday at the Region 7 Education Service Center in Kilgore. The First Place Winner was DaVonte Wilson. Second Place was Jasinto Martinez, and third Place was Raul Olmos. Their Teacher and sponsor was Patty Tucker.

The high schools that competed along with John Tyler were: Carlisle, Gilmer, Lindale, Ore City, New Summerfield, Slocum, Woden and Union Grove.

Throughout the Texas Citizen Bee competition, students have the opportunity to learn about the U.S. Constitution, landmark Supreme Court cases, the Bill of Rights, and political, historical, and current events and people. The competition includes a 30 minute written exam, comprised of 65 multiple choice questions, which counts for 65 percent of the final score. Following the written exam, students compete in four rounds of oral questions in front of a panel of judges. Davonte Wilson advances to the State Citizen Bee Competition which will be held in Austin on Saturday, April 26. There he will compete against the winners from the other Regional Citizen Bees, this time the prizes will be scholarship money.
