The love of gaming machines proved to be the downfall for a man wanted by police today when Tyler officers caught the man as he played online poker at a local convenience store.

Steven Brightwell, 50, of Whitehouse, was taken into custody about 1 p.m. as he played an online video game at the Tyler Travel Center on Loop 323 near Farm-to-Market Road 14.

Brightwell was wanted on five felony probation warrants, Tyler Police Spokesman Don Martin said.

Police were dispatched to the same location earlier in the day when they believed Brightwell was in the business only to learn he had left.

However, a few hours later a phone call to police indicated the wanted man was back inside the store.

Tyler Paper was on the scene when Brightwell was taken into custody.

He is being transported to the Smith County Jail.
